>Rubies display well in almost any type of cut, but avoid cuts that are shallow or poorly faceted. Many rubies that aren’t suitable for faceting are still beautiful when cut in a cabochon or pillow shape. Do expect to pay for rubies of gem quality, though. After imperial jadeite, rubies are the most expensive gems in the world. Rubies are sturdy stones, but are still vulnerable to breakage and chipping.
