>Freshwater Pearls- Rare and Unique: Keshi Pearls

Written by sudha on August 14, 2008

>Keshi pearl is a non beaded pearl that is accidentally formed as a bi-product of the pearl culturing process. The formation of Keshi pearls takes place after the rejection and spitting of the nucleus by the oyster before the completion of the pearl culturing process. Or in some cases, the implanted tissue breaks and creates different pearl sacs without any nuclei. These pearls sacs gradually results in the formation of a pearl having no nucleus.Keshi pearls can be both either freshwater or salt water. They are usually smaller in size up to 4-5 mm as there is no nucleus to guide the shaping of the pearl. This is the reason why Keshi pearls are available in varying sizes. More here
