A pavé setting is a style in which many small gemstones of the same shape are set in extremely close proximity. This mass formation effectively coats the metal surface. The gems are separated by and held in place by little beads of the setting metal. The result is what looks like a continuous surface of diamonds or other gems. The word Pavé comes from the French word for pavement.
